I've started watching films again on a regular basis so here is a record of my
film watching, mainly for my own benefit but Adele and Dianne may be interested
too. Even Drew and Susie might look at it once. Can't see anybody else being
too bothered
| Rating | Title | UK | Type | Views | Notes | | 49 Films, Average Rating: 1.6 |
|
    | Kenny | 2007 | | First | Not really laugh out loud but fairly enjoyable. The second half is better when there's more character development rather than endless trips to shows providing toilets |
    | The Machinist | 2004 | | First | I just couldn't decide if I liked this or not. It' well filmed with a very thin looking Bale and wraps up quite nicely at the end |
    | Straightheads | 2007 | | First | A fairly straightforward story that seemed to switch between realism and fantasy. I didn't have much empathy with the characters and the film just fizzled out in the end |
    | The Believer | 2001 | | First | Another highly rated film that I thought was rubbish. It seemed too bizarre to be real and yet I thing it was meant to be realistic |
    | The Cooler | 2003 | | First | I gave this a go purely down to William H. Macy playing the lead and although all the main performances were good, the story wasn't that great |
    | The Incredible Hulk | 2008 | | First | It was entertaining enough I suppose but I'm looking for a little more than one CGI monster battling another CGI monster |
    | Enemy at the Gates | 2001 | | Many | I've seen this a few times now and it would get a higher score but I think the ending lets it down a bit. Otherwise, very good |
    | To Kill a King | 2003 | | First | Very watchable film with good performances from the two leads. It even seemed to be fairly accurate historically |
    | Be Kind Rewind | 2008 | | First | A funny idea that is just not funny enough with a predictable sentimental ending. Maybe Jack Black has made only one good film |
    | True Romance | 1993 | | Many | I need to go back to decent films after watching disappointing ones and so this can be relied upon. A good story with decent stints from all the actors |
    | The Motorcycle Diaries | 2004 | | First | Not enough happening on this journey to make it entertaining (well acted though). A very ordinary film, especially in the first hour, the second getting a little better |
    | The Fifth Element | 1997 | | Second | I've recently seen a few duffers hence the need to watch a reliable film that I knew I was going to enjoy. A perfect curry accompaniment |
    | Around the World in 80 Days | 2004 | | First | I only watched this for Steve Coogan and while he does his best, the film is spoilt by some strange editing, too many cameos and too many fight scenes |
    | Life Is Beautiful | 1997 | | First | One of the most annoying lead characters I have ever encountered. I could only stick it for 30 minutes before switching off. Don't know why people like it so much |
    | Resident Evil | 2002 | | First | I suppose you can't expect much from a film based on a video game and this lives up to that. It even feels like watching someone play a video game |
    | I, Robot | 2004 | | First | I'm just not keen on films with loads of implausible and unbelievable CGI scenes and this has loads of them. Entertaining enough in parts though |
    | The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen | 2003 | | First | It was nice to see the alternate version of reality on show here but all the characters seemed to fall a little flat. For such a promising idea, it should have been better |
    | Cypher | 2002 | | First | Some great cinematography with a decent script and good performances from the two leads makes for an enjoyable if slightly convoluted film |
    | Star Trek X Nemesis | 2002 | | First | I'm not a big fan of Star Trek but this was very ordinary. A very simple plot that panned out pretty much as expected |
    | Million Dollar Baby | 2004 | | First | Well I was enjoying this up to the two hour mark but the last half hour is just too downbeat. I suppose I was looking for a Rocky type ending |
    | Shaft | 2000 | | First | Well this didn't get very good reviews but I thought it was an entertaining enough film with lots of killings which you need in this type of film |
    | Natural Born Killers | 1994 | | Many | Seen this a few times and although its a little strange in places the idea is solid enough and well played out by all the cast |
    | Pan's Labyrinth | 2006 | | First | I think this film could have been even better than it was but was spoiled by a few overly violent bits and the lead child being a bit on the stupid side |
    | Bright Young Things | 2004 | | First | I really like Stephen Fry's work generally but this was rubbish, full of unlikable and stupid characters with a very flimsy plot. I only managed 2/3 before switching off |
    | Road To Perdition | 2002 | | First | You see I really like Goodfellas and although this is a decent film, it has none of the pace, humour and great characterisations |
    | From Dusk Till Dawn | 1996 | | Second | I wasn't that keen on this first time round and it seems to have gotten no better (or worse) in the time that has past since the first viewing |
    | America Unchained | 2007 | | First | Not sure if a full length documentary counts as a film but this is typical Dave Gorman stuff and is funny in parts if you like his other stuff |
    | Brothers of the Head | 2005 | | First | I think mockumentaries work as comedies but this one is a straight one and so seems a little convoluted. Some of the 'documentary' interviews are also pretty stale |
    | Mischief Night | 2006 | | First | A little hard to identify with but entertaining enough even. Considering the subject matter, I think it was a little sugar coated in places |
    | Reign Over Me | 2007 | | First | This got decent reviews but it didn't appeal to me very much especially considering the nut case still managed to get the girl |
    | The Firm | 1988 | | First | Considering this is about a bunch of football hooligans, it wasn't really very convincing. Just a load of ex Grange Hill and pre Eastenders actors larking about |
    | Time Bandits | 1981 | | Many | Not watched this for a long time and although I liked it when I first saw it, it doesn't seem as good now. It is a kids film after all |
    | Beavis and Butt-Head Do America | 1996 | | Second | For some reason I didn't want anything too challenging tonight and this seemed to fit the bill. Not as good as Empire make out but there are laughs to be had |
    | Fantastic Four | 2005 | | First | Well it was just about entertaining. Everything came together just a little too easily but I suppose you can't expect too much |
    | Dead Man's Shoes | 2004 | | First | A brilliant film, great story and superbly acted. A great relief to see such a great film after a load of very indifferent films. Deserves its high IMDb score |
    | New York Stories | 1989 | | First | Three short stories by three different directors. The ones by Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola were very dull but Woody Allen's one was much better |
    | You're Dead | 1999 | | First | Terrible film. Very predicable. Meant to be a thriller but went for laughs as well which failed. It had the lovely Claire Skinner as well from Life Is Sweet. What a waste |
    | Once Upon a Time In the Midlands | 2002 | | First | My third Shane Meadows film and quite entertaining to boot. Not quite as good as This Is England but a nice story well acted with even a cameo by Vic and Bob |
    | Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl | 2003 | | Second | For some reason I got it into my head that this was the first sequel. I wondered why it looked strangely familiar. Oh well, enjoyable enough even the second time |
    | Collateral Damage | 2002 | | First | Now I do enjoy a good Arnie film but this was very poor. I think this was meant to be believable but it was extremely implausible and lacking in humour |
    | Run Fatboy Run | 2007 | | First | I like Simon Pegg but this was a pretty straight forward lightweight British Comedy. A few funny bits but fairly predictable |
    | Carry On Screaming | 1966 | | Second | I always remember this as one of the better Carry On films from childhood. Fair enough, not brilliant but a reasonable take on the horror comedy |
    | Stander | 2005 | | First | Well it was an entertaining enough film but nothing special so I'm unsure why it has such a good score on IMDb |
    | Ae Fond Kiss | 2004 | | First | I've liked many of Ken Loach's films, Raining Stones being my favourite, but this one didn't appeal as much as some of the others |
    | Fargo | 1996 | | Many | One of my all time favourite films and the Coen's best that I have seen. I'm not keen on anyone who doesn't like this film a lot! |
    | For Your Consideration | 2006 | | First | I like most of Christopher Guest's films but he has made better |
    | Edmond | 2005 | | First | Not sure what this was trying to say, I'm tempted to watch Fargo again now to get some proper William H. Macy entertainment |
    | A Very Long Engagement | 2005 | | First | A more complicated film than Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children so a bit tricky to follow via subtitles |
    | A Scanner Darkly | 2006 | | First | A very odd film, completely rotoscoped but entertaining in parts |
