My wife Mary | made a lovely | Shepherd's Pie and | peas |
| D | Bm | F#m |
With | carrots and gravy, oh and | cabbage as an ad | ditional green |
I said "That looks fantastic love" and I tucked in hungrily |
My daughter Karen did not, something I wish I had seen |
For soon my plate was empty I said "Mary is there any more?" |
She said "No love but its treacle sponge for afters" and I said "Pwoar" |
I had a couple of mouthfuls when I heard Karen declare |
"I can't eat anymore of this Shepherd's Pie mum" |
| G | D |
Well it | filled me with des | pair |
Em7 | F#m | A |
Because if I'd | had known I would | have had it, you know (spoken) |
| G | A | F#m | Bm |
But I | can't go back to | savoury | now
| G | A | F#m | Bm | A |
That | Sheppard's Pie was | stunning but I'm | half way through me | pudding
| G | A | F#m | Bm A |
I | can't go back to | savoury | now

My | taste buds would go crazy, I | can't go back to savoury | now
| D | Em7 | F#m | Em7 |
My | tummy was in | turmoil, I was | panicked and con | fused |
| D | Bm | F#m |
And as | Karen's dinner grew | colder, so | did my sweet (spoken) |
For my pleasure in that treacle sponge was massively reduced |
By the site of fluffy potato and glistening meat (spoken) |
G | A |
Take this plate from me o Lord be | fore I go insane |
| Em | F#m | A |
Should I | press on with my afters, or | go back to me | main |
| D | F | G | Bb |
I | Can't go back, I | wont go back, I'd | love to go back but I | mustn't do that |
| D | F | G | Bb | A |
I | Can't go back, I | wont go back, Obviously I'd | love to go back but I | mustn't do that
D | Em7 | F#m | Em7 |
At that moment I | heard a sound, the | scrape of knife on | plate |
| D | Bm | F#m |
As I | watched Karen's | dinner go in the | dog's dish (spoken) |
My appetite now gone, my pudding suffered the same fate |
| G | D |
I can only assume this appalling outcome... | was | God's wish |
| G | D |
No I | can't go back to savoury | now
